You know those hand pies you get at McDonald's for $1? It's full of sugar, you don't know where the apples came from but it's so damn delicious! I haven't had one since high school, mostly because I try to steer away from chemically mass produced foods. BUT the craving is still there, ya know?
So since the apple season is in full force, I wanted to make a simple desert. My recipe came from here and, of course, I modified the recipe to my liking. I added some lemon juice and a pinch of salt to bring out the sweetness of the apples and the sugar. I also didn't pre-cook the apples as is in the recipe. I mean - why? They're gonna get baked.
So here are my simple steps of making these delicious things:
Step 1:
Get yourself some apples
Step 2:
Peel, Cut and Core them apples
Step 3:
Spice Up Your Life
MMM...sugar
Some Cinnamon
Some Cloves
A Bit of Nutmeg
Step 4:
Mix It Up
Step 5:
Get Your Dough Ready. I always make mine from scratch and it's super easy. I follow this recipe every time and it never disappoints
Step 6:
Cut up some round circles. TIP: Do NOT use any stemmed glass wear. I have scars to prove that it's always a bad idea.
Step 7:
Roll out the circles a bit more
Like so
Step 8:
Stuff them with the apple mixture
Step 9:
Pinch the edges to close them up
Step 10:
Why don't you make them sexy and get that fork design on?
Step 11:
X marks the spot
Step 12:
Brush the pies with some eggwash for that golden luster
Some 25-30 minutes at 375 degrees later
"A" is for apples! "A" is for awesome!
Enjoy :-)
